Wen-Sinn Yang
At the age of 24, Yang was engaged as Principal Solo Cellist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio. He is Professor at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Munich and also regularly conducts international master courses. During the 2016/17 season, he was Artist-in-Residence with the Taiwan Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra in Taipei. Since winning first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 1991, he has appeared in the most important concert halls of Europe and Asia with such renowned conductors as Lorin Maazel, Sir Colin Davis, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Yuri Terminkanov and Semyon Bychkov. Additionally, Wen-Sinn Yang is a regular guest at the international music festivals in St. Moritz, Davos, Biel, and Dresden, as well as at the Weilberg and Ludwigsburg Castle Festivals.
Wen-Sinn Yang has made over 20 CD recordings. One of his more ambitious projects is a DVD of Bach’s Cello Suites which was recorded in conjunction with Bavarian television in a small pilgrimage church in the Chiemgau. He has also made recordings of the Cello Concertos of Haydn, Dvorák und Boccherini. In the area of new music, Wen-Sinn Yang acts as an advocate for less well-known but highly virtuoso music, including Carl Davidoff’s Cello Concertos and Alfredo Piatti’s Caprices for violoncello solo. In 2005 the versatile cellist recorded the entire chamber music works of Aribert Reimann.
Wen-Sinn Yang will perform within the CellEAST Festival on May 9th, 10th and 12th 2024.
