Sevak Avanesyan

The Armenian cellist was born in 1989 and started studying the cello at age of 5. In 2010, Sevak started studying with Claudio Bohorquez at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.

He performed as soloist and chamber musician in venues, such as Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Ford Hall of Toronto, the Sidney Opera House, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. More recent concert seasons brought him to the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier, Festival of Menton and Brahms Festival in Brussels.

Sevak has been laureate of many international competitions, including the International Cello Competition Gerardmer in France, 1st Prize winner at the European Competition for Young Soloists in Luxembourg, the Lions Club European Competition, at Belgische Stichting Roeping and was awarded the Golden Label Prize by the Belgian music press association.

From 2013 to 2016, Sevak was the Solo cellist of the National Orchestra of Belgium.

The “Rhythm & Intervals” documentary by Comes Chahbazian premiered at the end of 2016 and it’s about the life of Sevak Avanesyan in Berlin during the period of 2011-2013. The documentary has already won prizes at several festivals and was aired on ARTR TV.

Sevak plays on the very first Matteo Goffriller cello from 1689, kindly given to him by Mischa Maisky.
