Mindaugas Bačkus

Mindaugas Bačkus is a Lithuanian cellist and artistic director, recognized for his innovative approach to classical music. A graduate of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, he is a leading figure in Lithuania’s contemporary music scene.

Since 2017, he has been Artistic Director of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, transforming it into one of the country’s most dynamic ensembles through innovative projects and cross-disciplinary collaborations. He is the founder of the International Klaipėda Cello Festival and the International David Geringas Cello Competition, and a member of the Klaipėda Cello Quartet.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he performs widely across Europe and has premiered numerous works by Lithuanian and international composers. He has received multiple national distinctions for his contribution to Lithuanian culture.
