Marius Urba

Solo Cellist of the Bamberg Symphony, laureate of numerous competitions he won the: 1st  Prize at the Concours International Musique de Chambre de Lyon, 1st  Prize at the Mendelssohn Competition Berlin, Grand Prix at the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition in Australia.

Marius Urba was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, and studied with Professors Peter Bruns in Leipzig and Troels Svane in Berlin. He received further important impulses from his father, a Rostropovich student, who trained him for many years, as well as from David Geringas and Wolfgang Boettcher.

His studies were followed by engagements as deputy 1st Solo Cellist in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and as 1st Solo Cellist at the Hanover State Opera and the Weimar Staatskapelle.

Marius Urba will perform within the CellEAST Festival on May 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th 2024.
