Josu Okiñena is an internationally recognized Basque pianist, researcher, and professor whose artistic activity integrates performance, academic research, and a transdisciplinary approach to musical interpretation. He holds a PhD from the University of Valladolid and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, later continuing his training at the Juilliard School in New York with Oxana Yablonskaya and in London with Maria Curcio, a direct pupil of Arthur Schnabel.

He has performed in prestigious concert halls around the world and participated in major international festivals, collaborating with renowned orchestras and artists. Strongly committed to contemporary music and to the promotion of Basque repertoire, he has premiered new works and made numerous critically acclaimed recordings, including several albums for Sony Classical such as Xuxurlak (Whispers), Les introuvables, and Aradak.

Alongside his concert activity, Josu Okiñena is the author of influential books on musical interpretation and has been invited to teach and lecture at universities and institutions in Europe and the Americas. For over two decades, he has toured internationally with cellist Răzvan Suma, contributing to the rediscovery and recording of previously unknown or rarely performed works.
